Andrew Robertson, President & Chief Executive Officer of BBDO Worldwide, just made the best appearance at DLD06, this is why:
- He did not use Power Point (10 points to Andrew - Power point is what you use when you can’t make a point)
- He spoke without a pre-written script - Stand-up style (hey it’s a speech - so speak - don’t read)
- He picked up physical artifacts as illustrations (a sick-back with notes. a pen, and a mobile phone - very powerful trick)
- He used online video ads (engaging & fun )
But most of all he had interesting and engaging stories to tell:
“My name is Andrew, I am a Black Berry addict. How did I discover that? I sat on the toilet in Dusseldorf and e-mailed a colleague in New York...That’s how I discovered”
Wonderful! Funny, self-exploiting and something many of us in the audience can identify us with. I am personally fed up with boring Power Point presentations, prepared speeches from non-engaging speakers. There is a Jewish concept called “stealing time”, it refers to the idea that peoples time are valuable (not money=time) and if you take their time, make sure that it is meaningful in one way another otherwise you are compared to a thief, stealing time..
