This is a short interview with Bill Tai, Venture Capitalist at Charles River Ventures. I asked Bill why he invested in Maxthon, the changing role of the browser and opportunities ahead. I shot the interview last at CRV in Menlo Park week, days after the release of IE7 and the day before the Firefox 2 just after I came back from a meeting with Mozilla. This is my first stumbling step as a Vlogger so please have mercy (the light could have been better;).
I plan to run a regular Maxthon Show, portraying developers and Maxthon-fans around the world so please let me know if there is anything in particular you would like to see.

Lately I have been thinking a lot of the delivery of new web services and the role that the browser plays here. Since more and more services are moving from being client-based to web-based the browser has become the focal point of delivery and interaction of these services. This is especially true with the advent of tabbed browsing.
Since I started to use Google Docs & Spreadsheets more frequently, I came up with this idea of creating a number of tabs for the rapid delivery of these services. So I created a group of tabs in Maxthon and called them "My office". When I launch this group, all my "office" tabs : Gmail, Google Calendar, Spreadsheets, Documents and Notebook are opened (see above). It's amazing how simple this was and what a change it brought about for me in terms of efficiency and user-friendlyness. Obviously, "My Office tabs" can consist of more services like "My accounts", "My Salesforce" or anything that you like.
When I had the opportunity last week to meet with the group at Google responsible for their Communications services like Gmail, Calendar, G-Talk, Spreadsheets etc, I demonstrated this delivery mechanism and discussed this "new browser role". I am sure that we haven't even scratched the surface on how these type of services could be better integrated or delivered in browsers. It will be interesting to see how this will evolve.
What do you think? How do you think the browser can play a better role in delivering the new web-services?
